The actor Richard Briers has died aged 79

The actor, Richard Briers has died at the age of 79

It is reported that he died "peacefully" at his London home on Sunday (17 Feb 2013) and had been battling a serious lung condition for several years.

He is best known for playing 'Tom' in the 70s TV sitcom "The Good Life". His other TV credits include "Ever Decreasing Circles" in the 1980s, and from 2000 to 2002 in "Monarch of the Glen". His London stage credits in recent years include "London Assurance" at the Olivier, National Theatre in 2010; "Bedroom Farce" at the Aldwych in 2002; "The Chairs" at the Royal Court in 1997; "Home" at the Wyndam's in 1995.

Richard Briers was appointed OBE in 1989, and CBE in 2003.
