Pete And Dud Come Again at The Venue, Leicester Square, from 2 March 2006
Pete And Dud Come Again, by Chris Bartlett and Nick Awde, will open at the The Venue, in Leicester Square 7 March 2006, following previews from 2 March - booking to 3 June 2006.
The cast includes Kevin Bishop (Dudley Moore), Tom Goodman-Hill (Peter Cook), Alexander Kirk ( chat show host Tony Ferguson), Colin Hoult (Jonathan Miller), Fergus Craig (Alan Bennett).
They were Pete & Dud, the Lennon & McCartney of British comedy, as indivisible as fish & chips or gin & tonic, keeping such huge audiences glued to their TVs in the 60s and 70s that the likes of Little Britain can only dream of achieving similarly phenomenal viewing figures.
Pete was the well-bred genius who revolutionised satire but whose ambition, by his own admission, abruptly vanished soon after achieving fame. Dud was the diminutive musical virtuoso, who rose above his unassuming Dagenham upbringing to woo and then win the heart of Hollywood. On stage and off, it was a partnership defined by love and hate, which has inspired many works of biographical fact and fiction.
New comedy drama Pete And Dud Come Again is unique amongst works about the duo, focussing for the first time on the story from Dudley’s perspective. It brings Pete and Dud back to the West End they once had at their feet, and its 'abundant laughs will remind audiences of what originally made this duo such beloved national favourites'.
Pete And Dud Come Again was a hit of the 2005 Edinburgh festival and nominee for the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award.
Since its Edinburgh success, Pete & Dud: - Come Again has been expanded to two acts, covering more of ‘Not Only But Also’, the explicit Derek and Clive tapes and the film ‘Bedazzled’.
Pete And Dud Come Again follows the rise and dramatic fall of the legendary comedy partnership. Returning from Hollywood in 1982 after his Oscar nomination for Arthur in which he acted with Liza Minnelli and John Gielgud, Dudley appears on a primetime chat show. Through a combination of flashbacks and sketches, their dream showbiz marriage is revealed as a divorce waiting to happen, starting with their first meeting on Beyond the Fringe.
