Buddy extends to 28 March 2009

Buddy, the musical that tells the story of Buddy Holly, has extended booking at the Duchess Theatre for a further 7 months - tickets now on sale to 28 March 2009

Producer and writer Alan Janes said: “We are delighted that Buddy will be rockin’ the Duchess Theatre through to 2009, the 20th year of the show and the 50th anniversary of ‘The Day The Music Died’ as Don McLean called the death of Buddy Holly in his song American Pie”.

Nearly 50 years ago, Buddy Holly tragically died in a plane crash aged just 22. Buddy tells the story of the three years in which he became the world’s top recording artist with a show that features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including “Peggy Sue”, “That’ll be the Day”, “Oh Boy”, “Rave On”, “Heartbeat” and “Raining in my Heart”.

The show follows the tragically short life of the star from his first recording contract through his move to New York, concluding with his fatal tour of Midwest America with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Buddy sings his way from the recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee to Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, culminating in a live rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza at the ‘Winter Dance Party’ finale.

The show originally opened in the West End in 1989 at the Victoria Palace Theatre, where it played until 30 Sep 1995. The show then transferred to the Strand Theatre (Now Novello Theatre) on 6 Oct 1995 - closing 3 March 2002. The musical has since toured the UK and internationally. Buddy opened at the Duchess Theatre 7 Aug 2007, following previews from 3 August, where it continues to 28 March 2009.
