The Ugly One, Free Outgoing and Gone Too Far!

The Royal Court Theatre confirms the three plays in its Upstairs Downstairs season this summer - plays which premiered in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs last year, and will now have revivals in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.

The Ugly One, by Marius von Mayenburg, translated by Maja Zade. Opens 12 June 2008, following previews from 10 June - running to 28 June 2008. Starring Michael Gould, directed by Ramin Gray, designed by Jeremy Herbert, lighting by Charles Balfour, sound by Nick Powell.

Lette thought he was normal. When the extent of his ugliness is revealed he turns to a plastic surgeon for help. But after the bandages come off, Lette soon learns that there is such a thing as too beautiful.

Free Outgoing, by Anupama Chandrasekhar. Opens 7 July 2008, following previews from 2 July - running to 19 July 2008. Starring Lolita Chakrabarti, directed by Indhu Rubasingham, designed by Rosa Maggiora, lighting by Mark Jonathan , sound by Christopher Shutt.

When a well-behaved Indian girl is filmed having sex in her classroom, the video clip spreads like a virus. Transmitted from person to person and across the globe it infects firstly the local community and then seemingly the entire world with a burning moral outrage. Free Outgoing sets the rampant technology of the modern world against the conservatism of an ancient culture.

Gone To Far!, by Bola Agbaje. Opens 28 July 2008, following previews from 23 July - running to 9 Aug 2008. Directed by Bijan Sheibani.

When two brothers from different continents go down the street to buy a pint of milk, they lift the lid on a disunited nation where everyone wants to be an individual but no one wants to stand out from the crowd.
