Oh What A Lovely War returns to Stratford East in 2014

Oh What A Lovely War, the satirical musical about World War I, returns to Theatre Royal Stratford East, from 1 Feb 2014 to 15 Mar 2014, 51 years after it premiered there, and 100 years from the start of World War I.

In 1963, it was adapted by Joan Littlewood for Theatre Workshop & Gerry Raffles and members of the original cast, based on radio play by Charles Chilton.

This revival is directed by Terry Johnson and designed by Lez Brotherston.

The musical is packed with familiar songs from the World War I era including ‘It's a Long Way to Tipperary’, ‘Pack up Your Troubles’ and ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’. The songs are performed against a projected backdrop of images and shocking statistics conveying the harsh realities of war.
