A Tale of Two Cities stage adaptation - King's Head

Theatreupclose presents A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, stage adaptation by Terence Rattigan and John Gielgud, at the King's Head Theatre, a 125-seat pub fringe venue in Angel, north London, from 25 Sep to 19 Oct 2013.

Directed by Adam Spreadbury-Maher, designed by Christopher Hone, costumes by Jonathan Lipman , lighting by Seth Rook Williams.

The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralised by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution. Retaining the tension of the French Revolutionary setting but merging it with a modern, East London aesthetic, the production reimagines Dickens’ dangerous and doomed antihero Sydney Carton as a member of the 27 Club (which includes Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse).
