Guildhall School presents Rags at Silk Street Theatre

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama presents the musical Rags, at the Silk Street Theatre, at the Barbican Centre, from 2 to 10 July 2013.

Music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz , book by Joseph Stein.

Directed by Richard Howell, the cast includes Lois Meleri-Jones (Rebecca Hershkowitz), James Mack (Nathan Hershkowitz), Tom Lincoln (David Hershkowitz), Grace Andrews (Bella Cohen), Christopher Currie (Avram Cohen), Ryan Van Champion (Ben), Maximilien Seweryn (Saul), Melanie Heslop (Rachel), Rhys Isaac-Jones (Young David).

Designed by Susannah Henry, choreography by Bill Deamer, lighting by Richard Howell , sound by Ben Harrison.

Set in 1910, Rags follows the story of Rebecca, a young Russian immigrant mother, arriving in America with her son, David, and forced to work in a sweatshop to survive while she endeavours to find her husband. The joy of finding him, however, soon turns to anguish when she discovers that he has rejected much of his ethnic culture, in an attempt to assimilate with American society.
