They’re Playing Our Song at Menier from 25 July 2008 with Connie Fisher & Alistair McGowan

They’re Playing Our Song, with book by Neil Simon, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager, will open at he Menier Chocolate Factory 4 Aug 2008, following previews from 25 July - running to 28 Sep 2008, starring Connie Fisher & Alistair McGowan

It is directed by Fiona Laird, designed by Matthew Wright, with musical supervisor and orchestrations by Caroline Humphris.

A semi autobiographical story based on the relationship between composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager. The story of Vernon Gersch, a neurotic and successful composer with a host of awards. He is paired up with the lovably eccentric Sonia Walsk – a young lyricist who is a hopeless time-keeper and dresses in cast off theatre costumes. The unlikely pairing seems destined to falter before it begins; can Vernon’s egotistical bachelor lifestyle cope with Sonia’s ex-boyfriend and her multiple personalities? As their working relationship grows, however, so do their feelings for each other, and romance blossoms.

Connie Fisher shot to fame as the winner of the TV series How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? And then as the star of the West End hit The Sound of Music. This production marks her return to the London stage.

Alistair McGowan's, recent West End appearances include Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop of Horrors. Other theatre includes The Government Inspector (Chichester) and Art (West End). He is also well known for his BAFTA award winning TV show The Big Impression (BBC).
