Jane Horrocks stars in stage revival of East is East

Jamie Lloyd Productions have today announced the second show in their Trafalgar Transformed second season at the Trafalgar Studios. Jane Horrocks will star in a new production of East is East by Ayub Khan Din, which will run at the venue from 4 Oct to 3 Jan 2015.

Horrocks will play Ellen Khan, alongside playwright Khan Din who will also star as her husband George "Genghis" Khan in his semi-autobiographical take on British Asian life in the 1970s.

Jane Horrocks's stage credits include 'Annie Get Your Gun' and 'The Good Soul of Szechuan' at the Young Vic, as well as 'Absurd Person Singular' at the Garrick Theatre and 'Cabaret' at the Donmar Warehouse. She is best known for creating the role of LV in 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' which ran at the National Theatre and the Aldwych Theatre, and was later turned into the film 'Little Voice' for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Ayub Khan Din is a writer and actor. 'East is East' was his first play, originally performed at the Royal Court Theatre in 1997 and was later adapted into a film of the same name. He was last seen on stage in May 2013 in the off-Broadway production of 'Bunty Berman Presents'.

East is East follows Pakistani chip-shop owner George Khan who is determined to give his children a strict Muslim upbringing despite them living in 1970s Salford. As household tension begins to reach breaking point, their long-suffering English mother, Ella, gets caught in the cross fire. She finds her loyalties divided between her marriage and the free will of her children.

The production will be directed by Sam Yates and produced by Jamie Lloyd Production in conjunction with the Ambassadors Theatre Group. Priority tickets go on sale today, with general booking opening on 13 May 2014.
