Skylight at the Wyndham's Theatre from 6 June 2014
Stephen Daldry will direct the London revival of David Hare's
Skylight which opens at the Wyndham's Theatre on 18
June 2014, following previews from 6 June.
This brand new production will star Matthew Beard, Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy, and
is directed by Stephen Daldry, featuring designs by Bob Crowley.
Skylight originally opened at the National Theatre in
1995 where it went on to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play. The production transferred to the
Wyndham's Theatre before enjoying a Broadway engagement and a return to the West End's Vaudeville Theatre
Set on a cold evening in London, 'Skylight' follows schoolteacher Kyra Hollis (Carey Mulligan) as she is
reunited with an old flame, Tom Sergeant (Bill Nighy). As the pair attempt to rekindle their former feelings
for each other, Kyra discovers that Tom has become a successful restaurateur and that his wife has recently
passed away. The evening progresses and the old friends soon find that the dangerous mix of mutual desire
and opposing ideologies is about to come to a head.
Public booking for Skylight opens today. The show opens at the Wyndham's
Theatre on 18 June 2014, following previews from 6 June and is currently booking until 23 August 2014.
David Hare has written 29 stage plays, including 'The Judas Kiss', 'The Blue Room' and most recently 'South
Downs'. His screenplays include 'The Hours' and 'The Reader', on which he also collaborated with director
Stephen Daldry. Daldry's recent West End credits include the sell-out production of 'The Audience' which
starred Helen Mirren. He is also known for directing the stage adaptation of 'Billy Elliot' which is
currently at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London.
'Skylight' will mark the West End debut of Carey Mulligan, whose Broadway credits include Ian
Rickson's production of 'The Seagull' at the Walter Kerr Theater. She has worked extensively on film,
winning the 2010 Best Actress BAFTA award for 'An Education'. More recent film credits include 'Inside
Llewellyn Davis' and 'The Great Gatsby'.
Bill Nighy has worked on both stage and screen, and is commonly remembered for roles in 'Love
Actually', 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One'. On stage he
starred in the world premiere of David Hare's 'The Vertical Hour' on Broadway, as well as performing in the
original 1997 production of 'Skylight'.
Matthew Beard will make his stage debut in 'Skylight'. He has appeared in films such as 'An
Education', 'One Day' and the forthcoming screen adaptation of 'Posh'.
