Skylight at the Wyndham's Theatre from 6 June 2014

Stephen Daldry will direct the London revival of David Hare's Skylight which opens at the Wyndham's Theatre on 18 June 2014, following previews from 6 June.

This brand new production will star Matthew Beard, Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy, and is directed by Stephen Daldry, featuring designs by Bob Crowley.

Skylight originally opened at the National Theatre in 1995 where it went on to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play. The production transferred to the Wyndham's Theatre before enjoying a Broadway engagement and a return to the West End's Vaudeville Theatre in 1997.

Set on a cold evening in London, 'Skylight' follows schoolteacher Kyra Hollis (Carey Mulligan) as she is reunited with an old flame, Tom Sergeant (Bill Nighy). As the pair attempt to rekindle their former feelings for each other, Kyra discovers that Tom has become a successful restaurateur and that his wife has recently passed away. The evening progresses and the old friends soon find that the dangerous mix of mutual desire and opposing ideologies is about to come to a head.

Public booking for Skylight opens today. The show opens at the Wyndham's Theatre on 18 June 2014, following previews from 6 June and is currently booking until 23 August 2014.

David Hare has written 29 stage plays, including 'The Judas Kiss', 'The Blue Room' and most recently 'South Downs'. His screenplays include 'The Hours' and 'The Reader', on which he also collaborated with director Stephen Daldry. Daldry's recent West End credits include the sell-out production of 'The Audience' which starred Helen Mirren. He is also known for directing the stage adaptation of 'Billy Elliot' which is currently at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London.

'Skylight' will mark the West End debut of Carey Mulligan, whose Broadway credits include Ian Rickson's production of 'The Seagull' at the Walter Kerr Theater. She has worked extensively on film, winning the 2010 Best Actress BAFTA award for 'An Education'. More recent film credits include 'Inside Llewellyn Davis' and 'The Great Gatsby'.

Bill Nighy has worked on both stage and screen, and is commonly remembered for roles in 'Love Actually', 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One'. On stage he starred in the world premiere of David Hare's 'The Vertical Hour' on Broadway, as well as performing in the original 1997 production of 'Skylight'.

Matthew Beard will make his stage debut in 'Skylight'. He has appeared in films such as 'An Education', 'One Day' and the forthcoming screen adaptation of 'Posh'.
