Toyer posts early closing notices 21 March 2009
The psychological thriller Toyer, has posted early closing notices for 21 March 2009 at the Arts Theatre. ( It was originally booking to 11 April).
Toyer, adapted from the novel by Gardner McKay, and starring Al Weaver & Alice Krige, opened at the Arts Theatre 25 Feb 2009, following previews from 16 Feb to average notices from the popular press: THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "It thrills." THE TIMES says, "Gardner McKay’s two-hander had more impact on my stomach, which ended up a bit queasy, than on my pulse, which refused to race." THE EVENING STANDARD says, "I cannot remember when I spent a more morally repellent 90 minutes in the theatre." THE STAGE says, "Gardner McKay has written something very one-dimensional." THE DAILY MAIL says, "Taut, chilling and only occasionally unbelievable."
It is directed by William Schoular, designed by Ruari Murchison, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound by John Leonard, produced by Dodi M. Soames in association with Oliver Royds for PW Productions Ltd.
When a charming stranger appears at psychologist Maude’s remote house in the LA hills one night, an innocent encounter soon becomes a sexually charged battle of wits. Is he merely a playful admirer or the ‘Toyer’, a disturbed man who performs unspeakable acts of violence on his female victims. A cat and mouse game of verbal, psychological and physical intrigue ensues, where one player must outwit the other.
