After The Dance cast update at NT - Adrian Scarborough

Some casting has been announced for After The Dance by Terence Rattigan, which opens at the Lyttleton, NT 8 June 2010, following previews from 1 June.

Adrian Scarborough (John Reid), Nancy Carroll (Joan Scott-Fowler), Benedict Cumberbatch (David Scott-Fowler), John Heffernan (Peter Scott-Fowler).

It is directed by Thea Sharrock, designed by Hilegard Bechtler, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Ian Dickinson.

As the world races towards castastrophe, a crowd of Mayfair socialites party their way to oblivion. At its centre is David, who idles away his sober moments researching a futile book until the beautiful Helen decides to save him, shattering his marriage and learning too late the depth of both David's indolence and his wife's undeclared love. But with finances about to crash and humanity on brink of global conflict, the drink keeps flowing and the revelers dance on.

Adrian Scarborough joins the cast fresh from The Habit of Art at the NT. His other National credits include Time and the Conways, Once in a Lifetime, Henry IV Part I & II, The Mandate and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. His other theatre work includes Accidental Death of an Anarchist and To the Green Fields Beyond (Donmar Warehouse) and Platonov, The Tempest and Vassa (Almeida Theatre).

Nancy Carroll most recently appeared in Twelfth Night (RSC); other credits include Waste (Almeida), and at the NT, The Voysey Inheritance and The Man of Mode.

Benedict Cumberbatch takes his first role for the NT; his recent productions include The City, Rhinoceros, and The Arsonists (Royal Court), and on film, Atonement.

John Heffernan joins the cast fresh from The Habit of Art at the NT. Other NT credits include The Revenger's Tragedy & Major Barbara. For the RSC: King John, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet.
