"Through the Leaves" transfers to Duchess 23 Apr 03

It is now confirmed that Through The Leaves, with Simon Callow and Ann Mitchell, which had a run at the Southwark Playhouse in January this year, will transfer to the Duchess Theatre, opening on 28 Apr 03, following previews from 23 Apr, and booking to 24 May 03.

The play is by Franz Xaver Kroetz, with translation by Anthony Vivi. It is directed by Daniel Kramer, designed by Soutra Gilmour, with lighting by Charles Balfour.

Simon Callow's London stage credits in recent years include "The Alchemist" at the Olivier, NT in 1996; "Importance of Being Oscar" at the Savoy in 1997; "Mystery of Charles Dickens" at the Comedy in 2000 and the Albery in 2000/01 and 2002.

Ann Mitchell's most recent London stage credit include "Tantalus" at the Barbican in 2001. Her TV credits include the role of 'Dolly Rawlins' in the 1983 TV drama serial "Widows".

"Through the Leaves" tells a shattering love story between a female butcher, Martha (Ann Mitchell) and an alcoholic factory worker, Otto (Simon Callow), both trapped in a dysfunctional relationship born out of mutual need. The play explores why and how people stay in desperate and often abusive relationships where they are unable to articulate suffering.

(The play is not suitable for under 16 years)
