Miriam Margolyes & Nigel Planer cast in Wicked


Miriam Margolyes will star as ‘Madame Morrible’ and Nigel Planer as ‘The Wizard’ in Wicked, which opens at the Apollo Victoria Theatre 27 Sep 2006, following previews from 7 Sept 2006 - booking to 24 Feb 2007.

They join previously announced Idina Menzel, who is recreating her Broadway role as 'Elphaba' and Adam Garcia, as 'Fiyero'

Miriam Margolyes' West End credits include "The Vagina Monologues" at the Arts Theatre in 2001 and "The KIlling of Sister George" at the New Ambassadors in 1995. Her many film appearances including: ‘Professor Sprout’ in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; ‘Nurse’ in Baz Luhrmann’s "Romeo + Juliet"; "The Age of Innocence", and "Little Dorrit" .Her tv credits include Blackadder I, II and III; ‘Miss Crawley’ in the BBC adaptation of Vanity Fair and, most recently, as the presenter of the 4-part documentary series Dickens In America.

Nigel Planer's West End credits include 'Amos Hart' in "Chicago" at the Adelphi Theatre in 1998 and "We Will Rock You" at the Dominion Theatre in 2002. His numerous TV appearances include Neil in "The Young Ones"; "The Grimleys"; "Shine On Harvey Moon"; "King and Castle" "The Comic Strip Presents…".

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, WICKED has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holzman, scenic design by Eugene Lee, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Kenneth Posner, sound by Tony Meola, orchestrations by William David Brohn, musical staging by Wayne Cilento and is directed by Joe Mantello.

Two girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, feisty and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very, very popular. WICKED is the story of these two unlikely friends and how they end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
