Chicago Cowboy by Katherine Pearce - Rosemary Branch
Boy Who Cried presents Chicago Cowboy by Katherine Pearce, directed by Leah Townley, at the Rosemary Branch Theatre, a fringe venue in Islington, north London 21 to 26 May 2013.
Cast includes Lloyd Morris, Jodyanne Richardson, Elisa King, Marcus Adolphy.
Explores the close and fraught relationship between the
black and Jewish communities from the late 1930s to the 60s.
The play is based in part on the lives of the Artistic Director, Leah Townley’s
grandparents. It follows the lives of Sam, a self-made businessman, hotel owner
and part-time cowboy who rides in rodeos with the Kosher Cowboys and Earl
who arrived from the South as a young man looking for a better life, and found
his way to being manager of the Hoover Hotel on Chicago's west side.
The play is accompanied throughout by live Jazz music from the era, as well as
new compositions by Peter Michaels, all performed by Jazz pianist Ashley Henry.
