Dirty Dancing returns to West End 13 July 2013


Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage, returns to the West End, at the Piccadilly Theatre from 13 July, booking to 22 Feb 2014.

Dirty Dancing opened at the Aldwych Theatre on 24 Oct 2006, following previews from 29 Sep, with a record- breaking advance of £15 million - making it the fastest ever selling show in West End theatre history. The production became the longest running show in the history of the Aldwych Theatre and played to over 2 million people during its 5 year run, which ended on 9 July 2011.The show has since toured nationwide. (a new UK tour will launch in March 2014)

Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage, is written by Eleanor Bergstein, directed by Sarah Tipple, designed by Stephen Brimson-Lewis, lighting by Tim Mitchell, choreography by Kate Champion, costumes by Jennifer Irwin, sound by Bobby Aitken. Produced by Karl Sydow & Amber Jacobsen.

The film Dirty Dancing, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, was released in 1987. All the hits from the film's soundtrack, which includes Do You Love Me?, She's Like The Wind and Time Of My Life, are featured in the stage show along with some new numbers. The story has been re-written for the stage, but includes all of the movies memorable moments and some added scenes as well. The Houseman's take their vacation at a popular holiday camp, where youngest daughter 'Baby' meets dance teacher from the wrong side of the tracks, Johnny. There begins a classic love story through which we see that love can conquer all barriers and we learn that 'nobody puts Baby in the corner'!
