Phantom of the Opera now booking to 25 April 2009 - installs new sound system!

The Phantom of the Opera has a new 6 booking period - tickets now on sale to 25 April 2009 at Her Majesty's Theatre.

Also, for the first time in almost 22 years, the show is closing for four performances (5, 6, 7 May 2008) to install a new digital sound system.

Cameron Mackintosh said, “Phantom had ground-breaking sound when it opened in 1986 and Andrew and I have wanted for some time to give our sound system a complete up-date so that our audiences could enjoy the most exciting theatrical sound in London”.

"Designed by Mick Potter, the digital system will double the amount of microphones used in the show and the Phantom himself will now use 3 microphones. The new surround sound system will consist of over 10 kilometres of cable, 120 speakers placed throughout the auditorium and a digital sound desk that will make the largest orchestra in the West End and 40 strong cast sound more powerful than ever before. Technicians will begin to work around the clock as soon as the curtain falls on Saturday 3 May so the installation is complete in time."

The musical currently features Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom.

The Phantom of the Opera has been playing in London since 1986, and celebrated its 21st London birthday on 9 October last year. It has been seen in 124 cities in 25 countries and played to over 100 million people.

Directed by Harold Prince, it has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart .

'This haunting musical traces the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Opera Paris House.'
