The Misanthrope at Comedy Theatre from 7 Dec 2009


Martin Crimp's version of Moliere's The Misanthrope, opens at the Comedy Theatre 17 Dec 2009, following previews from 7 Dec 2009, booking to 13 Mar 2010

Directed by Thea Sharrock, and starring Damian Lewis (Alceste),Tara Fitzgerald, Keira Knightley (Jennifer), Dominic Rowan.

Transported from 17th century Paris to modern-day London, Alceste is a famous British playwright disillusioned and angry with the hypocrisy, shallowness and vanity of the contemporary world. Vowing to reject society, Alceste's plans are derailed when he falls madly in love with Jennifer. An ambitious American film star and darling of the social scene, she may prove to be his biggest challenge yet.

Damian Lewis' London stage credits include "Pillars of the Community" at the Lyttelton, NT in 2005; "Five Gold Rings" at he Almeida Theatre in 2003. For the RSC his work includes "Cymbeline", "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Lyttel Eyolf". His film and television roles include Soames in "The Forsythe Saga", Jeffrey Archer in "The Truth" and Richard Winters in "Band of Brothers".

Tara Fitzgerald's London stage credits include "A Doll's House" at the Donmar Warehouse in 2009; "And Then There Were None" at the Gielgud in 2005 & "Antigone" at the Old Vic in 1999.

Keira Knightley's, is making her West End stage debut. Her many films credits include "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Pride & Prejudice" and "Bend It Like Beckham".

Dominic Rowan's London stage credits includes "A New World" at the Globe in 2009; "Under the Blue Sky" at the Duke of York's in 2008; "Happy Know?" at the Cottesloe, NT in 2008; "Voyage Round My Father" at the Donmar & Wyndham's in 2006; "A Dream Play" at the Cottesloe, NT in 2005; "Forty Winks" at the Royal Court in 2004; "Iphigenia At Aulis" at the Lyttelton, NT in 2004; "Mourning Becomes Electra" at the Lytelton, NT in 2003; "Three Sisters" at the Lyttelton, NT in 2003; "Talking Cure" at the Cottesloe, NT in 2002; "Private Lives" at the Lyttelton, NT in 1999.
