"ROMEO AND JULIET: THE MUSICAL" CASTING CONFIRMED

Casting has been confirmed for Romeo and Juliet, the French musical by Gerard Presgurvic, with English language lyrics by Don Black & David Freeman, which opens at the Piccadilly Theatre on 4th Nov 02, following previews 15th Oct 02, and booking to 22nd Feb 03.

The cast includes TV and recording star Jane McDonald (Nurse) , 15 year-old Lorna Want (Juliet), and 20 year-old Andrew Bevis (Romeo). With this production 'Romeo' and 'Juliet' will be played by actors of the age that Shakespeare intended!!

The cast will also feature Sevan Stephan (Friar Lawrence), David Bardsley (Lord Capulet), Michele Hooper (Lady Capulet), Michael Cormick (The Prince), James Graeme (Lord Montague), Louise Davidson (Lady Montague), Rachid Sabitri (Mercutio), Matt Dempsey (Benvolio), Alexis James (Tybalt), Tim Walton (Paris).

The show is directed by David Freeman and designed by David Roger and includes 20 original songs.

Unlike Bernstein & Sondheim's 'West Side Story' , which transplanted Shakespeare's classic love story to 20th Century gangland New York, this show will largely stay faithful to Shakespeare's play. Although the dialogue will be updated and modern pop music added, the story and characters, as well as the Renaissance Verona setting, will remain.
