A round up of the press notices......

This production has received reasonable reviews from the popular press...... CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, “This is a smashing production of a seriously undervalued play and one which confirms that, despite the odd blip - such as this season's disastrous Macbeth - the Globe is going from strength to strength.” PATRICK MARMION for THE EVENING STANDARD says,"Silver tongues make Cymbeline sparkle."He goes on to say, "He [Mike Alfreds] sends up the play's pomp, announcing stage directions where necessary. In doing so, he makes the rich text do all the work, forging a powerful bond of imaginative complicity with the audience.” He goes on to say, “Together Alfreds' cast speak the verse trippingly, opening up the play's fantastical schisms before neatly sealing them over with silver-tongued, textual healing.” PAUL TAYLOR for the INDEPENDENT says, “A masterly reappraisal.” He goes to describe the production as an , “excellent staging”. And says the Director, Mike Alfreds ”radical approach has a wondrous clarity”. THE SUNDAY TIMES says, "An admirable ensemble." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, “Cymbeline at Shakespeare's Globe lacks colour and that's not just the costumes.” MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN describes the production as “a kaleidoscopically restless play”. He goes on to say, “At its best, the production achieves a resonant clarity.”
