What the critics had to say.....
NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "The play is possessed by tension, irony and a sexual attraction that these fabulous actors [Will Keen & Rupert Evans] render real and poignant." CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "A deeply dreary, depressingly predictable piece of work." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "Altogether, this an intelligent, complex piece. If you crave dramatic ideas, they’re there in abundance." JOHN THAXTER for THE STAGE says, "This is Manuel Puig’s own stage adaptation, skilfully translated by Allan Parker and too rarely staged." MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "I fail to see its appeal, except as an opportunity for a virtuoso performance...Puig's play is an etiolated fable that celebrates a belated sexual awakening without shedding new light on life in a police state."
