The Walworth Farce
at the Cottesloe, NT

Genre: Drama
Opened 24 Sep 2008
Written: by Enda Walsh
Directed: Mikel Murfi
Cast: Denis Conway, Garrett Lombard, Tadhg Murphy, Mercy Ojelade.
Synopsis: It’s 11 o’clock in the morning in a council flat on the Walworth Road. In two hours' time, as is normal, three Irish men will have consumed six cans of Harp, 15 crackers with spreadable cheese and one oven-cooked chicken with a strange blue sauce. In two hours' time, as is normal, five people will have been killed.

What the popular press had to say.....
NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "A sombre, deadpan style, rather than one redolent of The Three Stooges, would have been more provocative and challenging." MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "Brilliant...An intoxicating evening." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "No doubt of it, Walsh is a writer whose every line swaggers with imagination, humour, toughness or all three. As witness also his Disco Pigs, he has a genuine feel for warped, damaged, emotionally imperilled lives. But this time his portrait of obsession seems obsessive itself. A bit more light and shade would surely help." SARAH HEMMING for THE FINANCIAL TIMES says, "Black comedy is great for revealing disturbing truths but The Walworth Farce doesn’t offer enough insight into its traumatised characters and so feels sensationalist." SIOBHAN MURPHY for THE METRO says, "Savage, bleak and thrilling."
