The tale of romance and deception between Hero and Claudio and the unexpected relationship filled with pranks and mischief between Hero's cousin Beatrice and Claudio's friend Benedick has been an audience favorite since it was performed by Lord Chamberlain's Men in 1598.
Much Ado About Nothing is a play with ever-resonant themes of deception, honour, love, and reputation. It is no wonder that the show has earned impressive awards and accolades throughout history. One such award was Derek Jacobi's 1985 Tony for his role as Benedick. In 1994, Mark Rylance earned an Olivier Award for his role as Benedick in the Queen's Theatre production, and in 2006, Tamsin Greig earned an Olivier Award for her role as Beatrice.
This production stars Ekow Quatey as Benedick. Quatey is known for his work in Harry Potter and, more recently, Becoming Elizabeth. Amalia Vitale from the new Tubi show Big Mood stars as Beatrice. Calum Callaghan (Mr. Selfridge) plays Borachio, John Lightbody (Holby City, Treason) plays Leonato, and Adam Wadsworth (My Phone Genie, Boys on Film 23: Dangerous to Know) plays the role of Claudio.
In addition to a standout cast, Much Ado About Nothing in London has an immensely talented creative team, including Tony Award-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning composer Grant Olding, voice coach Liz Flint (Matilda The Musical), designer Grace Smart (Hamlet), and director Sean Holmes (A Midsummer Night's Dream).
Throughout history, the play has inspired numerous other creative works, including operas, films, television and web series, and literature. In the 2009 album Sigh No More from Mumford & Sons, the title track uses quotes from the play.
