Alegria - Cirque du Soleil at Albert Hall 5 Jan 2006

Alegria - Cirque du Soleil, will be at the Royal Albert Hall from 5 to 29 Jan 2006.

Taking its name from a Spanish word for jubilation, Alegria is a renaissance of dreams with a baroque blend of astonishing acrobatics, aerial acts, 'extraordinary' lighting and an 'elaborate' set design.

'ALEGRiA casts the world in a different light: here, all the dreams are permitted, and you are the king, the poet, and the clown. The stage is a royal court where imagination reigns, where all the emotions of the soul are expressed, but where joy wins out in the end'

Alegria features an international cast of 56 performers and musicians from 13 countries. The 2 and half hour spectacle showcases acrobatics including the dramatically sensuous Synchro-Trapeze and the hi-energy Aerial High Bars where daring aerialists fly to catchers swinging more than 40 feet in the air. Imagine two agile performers who bring alive the Mongolian art of contortion and an artist manipulating flaming knives around his body in a rhythmic and dangerous Fire Knife Dance. The vibrancy of youth is alive in Fast Track, a display of synchronized choreography. In Russian Bars, artists fly through the air with somersaults, landing on bars perched on the sturdy shoulders of catchers.

It is directed by Franco Dragone, designed by Michel Crete, lighting by Luc Lafortune, costumes by Dominique Lemieux, and choreography by Debra Brown .
