Conor McPherson received the 1999 Olivier Award for Best New Play for The Weir and is considered to be one of the great contemporary Irish playwrights. His works have been produced both in the West End and on Broadway, including Shining City, The Seafarer and The Night Alive which received the 2014 New York Drama Critics Circle award for Best Play.

The legendary Bob Dylan recently received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his poetic expression through song. A prominent figure in the music industry for over 50 years, Dylan has received 12 Grammy Awards, an Oscar and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His music has inspired millions, and was a revolutionary sound for America in the 1960s. His hit songs include ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, ‘The Times They Are a-Changin’’, ‘Desolation Row’ and ‘Like A Rolling Stone.’

The production orignially ran at the Old Vic in July 2017 to wide critical acclaim for the cast, the story and the haunting arrangements of Dylan's classic numbers.

Bob Dylan is easily one of the most important, influential musicians of the 20th century, which is why this new play, Girl From the North Country - featuring his songs - by Conor McPherson was so eagerly anticipated. But while it serves up some beautiful renditions of some classic songs, it's a pity that the storytelling (or lack of it) lets this play down.

Conor McPherson’s Girl From the North Country opened at the Old Vic earlier this year to hugely positive reviews, with many taken aback by the beautiful reinterpretations of classic Bob Dylan numbers and the beautiful story that accompanied it.  Now, those who didn’t see the show in Lambeth will have another chance as it transfers to the Noel Coward Theatre from tonight. We spoke with returning cast member Bronagh Gallagher (whose credits include Pulp Fiction, Star Wars and War Horse) about the return of the show.

Casting has been announced for Conor McPherson’s Bob Dylan musical Girl from the North Country, which transfers to the West End in December.  Shirley Henderson will reprise her role as Elizabeth Laine, the wife of guesthouse owner Nick. The couple live in Duluth, Minnesota (Dylan’s hometown), and welcome a variety of guests throughout the show. A number of the original cast will also feature, including Arinzé Kene, Bronagh Gallagher and Debbie Kurup.

It may have just closed at The Old Vic, where it made its world premiere, but Conor McPherson’s play Girl from the North Country will be making a return to London in December with a West End run at the Noel Coward Theatre. An original cast recording has also been released, meaning we can Simon Hale’s excellent reimagining of some of Bob Dylan’s biggest hits, performed by the equally brilliant cast.  While we wait for the show to return, here are five of our favourite moments from the album, which is available now.  "Sign on the Window"

Conor McPherson’s play Girl from the North Country, featuring the music of Bob Dylan, is to transfer to the Noel Coward Theatre this December. Currently playing at the Old Vic, the play is set to transfer to the West End on 29th December, and will run until 31st March 2018, with an official opening on 11th January.  The original cast of Girl from the North Country includes Sheila Atim, Ron Cook, Bronagh Gallagher, Shirley Henderson, Ciaran Hinds, Claudia Jolly and Arinzé Kene. Casting for the West End transfer is to be announced.

The Old Vic and Sony Music Entertainment havae announced that an official cast recording of Girl from the North Country will be released next month. Girl from the North Countryis written and directed by Conor McPherson, and features the music and lyrics of Bob Dylan. The play, which opened at the theatre in July, is set in the town of Duluth (where Dylan grew up) and tells the stories of the numerous visitors who pass through a guest house. The show has musical arrangements by Simon Hale.  The play with songs runs at the Old Vic until October 2017. Tickets are available here.

Production images have been released for world premiere of The Old Vic production of Girl From The North Country, which opens this week.  Written and directed by Conor McPherson, the play  features music form the repertoire of Nobel Prize winning musician Bob Dylan, and is about a guesthouse in Minnesota.
