Ground-breaking play Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig, features a new adaptation by José Rivera and  Allan Baker. Originally a novel, this electrifying story has also been adapted into an Oscar winning film and a musical.

Laurie Sansom directs. Previously Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal and Derngate in Northampton, his credits include The James Plays by Rona Munro  and Beyond The Horizon by Eugene O’Neill.

Kiss of the Spider Woman was written by Manuel Puig while he was living in exile, and combines three things that shaped his life: sex, revolution and movies. This adaptation of the novel by Jose Riviera and Allan Baker brings the novel to life at the Menier Chocolate Factory after it premiered as a play at the Bush Theatre in the 1970s.

Samuel Barnet and Declan Bennett are to star in Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Menier Chocolate Factory in March.  The story, which has been adapted for the production by José Rivera and Allan Baker, is about he bond two criminals, Molina and Valentín, form in an Argentine prison through their daily conversations.  Barnet, who was an original member of The History Boys cast, will play Molina. His previous credits also include Dealer’s Choice (Menier/West End), The Beaux’ Stratagem (National Theatre), and Twelfth Night (Shakespeare’s Globe).

A new adaptation of Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman will run at the Menier Chocolate Factory from March. José Rivera and Allan Baker have adapted Puig’s novel, which is about the bond two criminals, Molina and Valentín, form in an Argentine prison through their daily conversations. It was written in 1976, and Puig wrote a stage adaptaion, which was translated into English by Baker, in 1983. It premiered at the Bush Theatre and starred Mark Rylance and Simon Callow. The play has also been adapted into an Oscar-winning play and a Broadway musical.
