Two teenagers sneak into an old man’s home for a secret meeting. A young couple try to build their future whilst looking after an ailing parent. A care home offers its residents the opportunity to unburden their children. James Fritz’s The Fall asks how much can a younger generation, dispossessed and disenfranchised, truly empathise with the old – especially when their future is at stake?

The Fall takes a funny, moving and candid look at young people’s relationship to older people, confronting the frightening prospect of ageing in a country undergoing a crises of housing and care.

Written by Olivier Award nominated and Bruntwood prize winning writer James Fritz (Parliament SquareRoss and Rachel), The Fall was commissioned as part of National Youth Theatre’s 60th anniversary and premiered at the Finborough Theatre in 2016. Directed by Bryan Forbes 2015 Bursary recipient Matt Harrison, whose recent assistant director credits include Kneehigh’s award-winning The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk and the West End production of Lady Windermere’s Fan.
