American playwright Arthur Miller has died aged 89

American playwright Arthur Miller has died aged 89. The BBC reports that he died on Thursday evening (10 Feb 2005), having battled with cancer, pneumonia and a heart condition.

"Mr Miller passed away at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut, last night at 9.17pm of congenital heart failure," said Julia Bolus, the playwright's assistant.

He was also famous for his brief marriage to Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s

His play "The Crucible" was inspired by his own experience of the McCarthy witch hunts of the 1950s.

His play Death of A Salesman, will open at the Lyric Theatre 16 May 2005, following previews from 10 May, booking to 6 Aug 2005

His other plays performed on the West End stage in recent years include: "The Price" at the Apollo Theatre in 2003; "All MY Sons" at the Cottesloe, NT in 2000 & Lyttelton , NT in 2001; "Broken Glass" at the Lyttelton, NT in 1994 and Duke of York's in 1995; ; "A View from the Bridge" at the Strand Theatre in 1994.
