Brian Friel's Afterplay at Gielgud from 10th Sep

The British premiere of Brian Friel's Afterplay, will open at the Gielgud theatre on 19th Sep 02, following previews from 10th Sep 02, starring John Hurt & Penelope Wilton.

This production, which recieved its world premiere at The Gate Theatre in Dublin in March this year, is directed by Robin Lefevre, with design by Liz Ascroft and lighting by Mick Hughes.

John Hurt's last West End appearance was in "Krapp's Last Tape" at the New Ambassadors Theatre in 2000.

Penelope Wilton's London stage credits include "Landscape" at the National in 1994, "The Cherry Orchard" at the Albery in 1996, "A Kind Of Alaska" at the Donmar Warehouse in 1998, "The Seagull" at the Barbican in 2000, and "Little Foxes" at the Donmar Warehouse in 2001.

AFTERPLAY revisits the lives of 'Andrey Prozorov', first seen in Checkhov's "The Three Sisters", and 'Sonya Serebriakova', from his 'Uncle Vanya'. The play takes place 20 years on and set in a run-down cafe in Moscow in the early 1920's at night-time.
