Jennifer Saunders and Kevin Bishop cast in Kathy Burke’s Lady Windermere’s Fan

Initial casting has been announced for Classic Spring’s second Oscar Wilde production at the Vaudeville Theatre, Lady Windermere's Fan, to be directed by Kathy Burke.

Lady Windermere's Fan is about a woman who suspects her husband is cheating on her with another woman. An angry Lady Windermere then invites the other woman to her 21st birthday party

Samantha Spiro will play Mrs Erlynne. Spiro first came to the public’s attention in Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick at the National Theatre playing a young Barbara, a role which she reprised in the BBC series Babs. She has also appeared in The House They Grew Up In (Chichester Festival Theatre), The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare’s Globe) and won an Olivier Award for her role in Merrily We Roll Along at the Donmar Warehouse.

Kevin Bishop will play Lord Darlington. Bishop is best known for appearing in the TV series Tracey Ullmann’s Show, Peep Show and his own series The Kevin Bishop Show. His stage credits include Fully Committed (Menier Chocolate Factory) and Once In A Lifetime (Young Vic).

Jennifer Saunders will guest star as the Duchess of Berwick. She is best-known for writing and starring in the show French and Saunders with comedy partner Dawn French, and the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Full casting is yet to be announced.

Director Burke is best known for her television work alongside comedian Harry Enfield (such as Kevin and Perry) and the BBC sitcom Gimme, Gimme, Gimme. She has also directed plays in London - The Retreat is set to open at the Park Theatre in November.

Lady Windermere's Fan will run at the Vaudeville Theatre from 12 January to 7 April 2018.

The first play in Dominic Dromgoole’s Oscar Wilde season is A Woman of No Importance, starring Eve Best, which is to begin previews on 6th October.
