The Charing Cross Theatre will reopen its doors this summer with a new production of Pippin. Pippin is at the Charing Cross Theatre from 30 June - 14 August.

Set in 1967, Pippin follows a young man who searches for his purpose in life, while dealing with the consequences of being heir to the throne of Charlemagne. Pippin features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, with songs including “Corner of the Sky”, “Morning Glow” and “Magic to Do”.

Casting for Pippin is to be announced. The creative team includes direction by Steven Dexter. Pippin will be staged in the round.

Speaking about the new production, Stephen Schwartz said: “I’m delighted that Steven Dexter’s new and re-imagined production of ‘Pippin’ will have further life this summer at Charing Cross Theatre. By stripping back ‘Pippin’ to its essence, it draws the audience directly into the heart of the story. I’m excited to come over to see it for myself, and if COVID rules permit, I will be there!”

An earlier version of Pippin ran at the Garden Theatre from 8 Sept - 17 Oct 2020. In a review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, "[Pippin's] quest, one increasingly feels, is echoed by that of a show that seems ceaselessly embarked upon its own search for a greater meaning when most of us would be happy, to be honest, just to revel in Schwartz’s agelessly appealing score."

Further programming at Charing Cross Theatre is to be confirmed.
