A brand new theatre space is set to open this month at the Natural History Museum, telling the story of Charles Darwin's maiden voyage.

The Wider Earth, devised by Dead Puppet Society, use an intricate design and assembly system to bring to life a huge array of species from around the world, from giant tortoises to flightless cormorant, to armadillos.

Nicholas Paine, creative producer and puppet fabricator on the show, invited us to the Jerwood Gallery at the Natural History Museum, where the play will be staged, to show us some of his puppets, how they move, are created and are operated by the actors on stage.

The cast of the show are no strangers to on-stage puppetry, with many having worked on shows such as War Horse in the past.

The Wider Earth opens at the Natural History Museum on 11th October 2018, and is currently in previews.

The Wider Earth tickets are available now.
