Todrick Hall to join cast of 'Shrek the Musical' in London

Singer-songwriter Todrick Hall, who has been cast as Donkey, shot to fame on the ninth season of American Idol, and is best known for judging RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Todrick Hall will join the cast of Shrek the Musical this summer, which returns to London at the Eventim Apollo Theatre for a six-week run.

Singer-songwriter Hall, who has been cast as Donkey, shot to fame on the ninth season of American Idol, and is best known for judging RuPaul’s Drag Race. He has also starred in Memphis, Waitress, and Kinky Boots on Broadway and Chicago on Broadway and in the West End.

Hall has worked with Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande, as well as written, co-produced, and released 17 studio albums. His videos have over 900 million views on YouTube.

Todrick joins the previously announced Antony Lawrence (Shrek), Joanne Clifton (Princess Fiona), James Gillan (Lord Farquaad), and Cherece Richards (Dragon).

The musical has book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. The creative team includes acclaimed director and choreographer Nick Winston (Bonnie and Clyde, Beauty and the Beast), co-director Sam Holmes (Club Tropicana the Musical), set and costume designer Philip Witcomb (Bonnie and Clyde, Jack & The Beanstalk), lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, and projection designer Nina Dunn.

Shrek the Musical was first performed on Broadway in 2008, receiving eight Tony nominations, and the award for Best Costume Design. The original West End production was nominated for four Olivier awards. Nigel Harman received the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lord Farquaad.

Based on the much-loved animated film, the musical follows the ogre Shrek on a whirlwind adventure, as he sets off on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona from the clutches of Lord Farquaad, with some help from his trusty companion Donkey.
