This new production spreads a darkness over the innocent tale of the exciting life and adventures of young Prince Pippin, told by a mysterious troupe of Victorian Vaudeville players who promise the audience ‘a finale you will remember for the rest of your lives…’

When I reviewed the London transfer for Pippin from the award-winning Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester for LondonTheatre.co.uk, I compared this production to a spectacular 2013 Broadway mounting of the 1972 musical and said that while I loved that one "for its extraordinary circus thrills, this unmissable production has even more integrity and dramatic conviction."

It has been announced that Jonathan O’Boyle’s production of the Tony Award-winning musical Pippin will transfer to Southwark Playhouse in spring 2018. The score includes classics like "Magic to Do" and "Corner of the Sky" and has been composed by Grammy and Academy Award recipient Stephen Schwartz, well-known for devising the music for Wicked. Pippin was originally directed by Bob Fosse and recently completed a successful Broadway revival.
