Based on the classic film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, the Pretty Woman musical tells the story of Vivian Ward, who is hired by a rich businessman called Edward Lewis to escort him to a number of events during his stay in the city. Though an unlikely pair from vastly different social standings, their relationship develops as they spend time together and get to know each other better. The movie went on to become the highest-grossing romantic comedy in the US ever, and its song "Oh, Pretty Woman," performed by Roy Orbison, became a hit. Pretty Woman tickets are available on London Theatre now.
This musical adaptation of the film opened on Broadway in 2018 at the Nederlander Theatre in New York, starring Andy Karl and Samantha Barks. Directed by Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), the show featured music by Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams. Pretty Woman: The Musical in the West End stars Aimie Atkinson and Danny Mac. It first played at the Piccadilly Theatre from 13 February to 14 March 2020 and transferred to the Savoy Theatre following the pandemic.
Reviews of the West End premiere production in London praised Atkinson and Mac's performances in the show, saying “[Danny] Mac succeeds in having plenty of charm, [while Aimie Atkinson] has a perfect combination of quirky vulnerability and the strength of a survivor.”
