The Almeida Theatre production of A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Paul Mescal, will transfer to the West End this spring. Following performances at the Almeida, A Streetcar Named Desire then runs at the Phoenix Theatre for seven weeks, from 20 March to 6 May.

Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire play follows sisters Blanche and Stella who reunite in New Orleans. Reality and illusions collide for the fractious pair, especially when Stella’s husband Stanley discovers hidden truths.

Paul Mescal will reprise the role of Stanley. The Oscar and BAFTA-nominated actor is best known for roles in Aftersun and Normal People.

“I’m incredibly excited that Streetcar is being transferred to the West End with this formidable cast and creative team, led by the exceptionally talented Rebecca Frecknall. It’s my favourite play and it’s wonderful to be able to share it with a wider audience,” said Mescal.

The Olivier Award-winning actress Patsy Ferran will reprise the role of Blanche DuBois, with Anjana Vasan as Stella, Dwane Walcott as Harold ‘Mitch’ Mitchell, Eduardo Ackerman as Pablo, Gabriela García as the Mexican Woman, Tom Penn as Doctor/Drummer, Jabez Sykes as Young Collector, Alexander Eliot as Steve, Cash Holland as Eunice, alongside understudies Francesca Knight, Rob Dempsey, Zach Parkin and Constanza Ruff.

Rebecca Frecknall directs A Streetcar Named Desire. She’s recently helmed the seven-time Olivier-winning Cabaret revival at the Kit Kat Club, and the Tennesee Williams play Summer and Smoke, also starring Ferran.

“I'm thrilled we will have the opportunity to share this production with a wider audience. It's a testament to this fantastic company and incredible play. It's been moving to see how audiences have responded to our work and I'm excited to see how the piece will evolve in the West End,” said Frecknall.

The show features set design by Madeleine Girling, costume design by Merle Hensel, lighting design by Lee Curran, and sound design by Peter Rice.
