Coriolanus starring Tom Hiddleston available to stream tonight
The Donmar Warehouse’s 2013 production of Coriolanus is the latest production to be streamed in the National Theatre at Home series. It will be the second non-National Theatre play to be available as part of the initiative, starring Tom Hiddleston as the titular Roman general.
When old opponents threaten Rome, it’s up to the city’s defender and hero Coriolanus to save the day. But, with enemies at home and famine sweeping the city, it’s up to Coriolanus to be the voice of all angry people.
The cast includes Tom Hiddleston, who was nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance as Coriolanus. He’s also starred in Betrayal at the Harold Pinter Theatre, as well as Shakespeare plays including Othello and Cymbeline.
Mark Gatiss plays Menenius, joined by Alred Enoch as Titus Lartius, Elliot Levey as Brutus and Hadley Fraser as Aufidius. The cast is completed by Rochenda Sandall, Mark Stanley, Dwane Walcott, Peter De Jersey, Helen Schlesinger, Deborah Findlay, Birgitte Hjort Sorensen, Jacqueline Boatswain, Rudi Goodman, Thomas Harrison and Joe Willis.
In a review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Mark Shenton said: "[Josie] Rourke's production lends [Hiddleston] rich and detailed support all around, not least from those seeking to undermine him... Together, this company bring a fierce intensity and immediacy to this visceral, violently charged political drama. This is Shakespeare that is up close, shocking and powerful."
