Dear Evan Hansen will re-open in the West End in 2021
The musical will open "as early as practical" in 2021.
Despite the UK government approving indoor performance in August, Dear Evan Hansen is delaying its return. Theatre performances are allowed to begin with social distancing measures in place beginning August 1, but the new musical will not be coming back to the Noel Coward Theatre this year.
"Due to the continued uncertainty around timings for a safe return for theatre productions, the producers of Dear Evan Hansen have had to make the very difficult decision to delay the recommencement of performances at the Noel Coward Theatre," the show's producers said in a statement. "Return dates for the production will be planned for as early as practical next year (2021) taking into consideration further advice and guidance from the Government including social distancing measures."
Dear Evan Hansen opened in the West End in November 2019. Written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman) and Steven Levenson, the musical follows an lonely, anxious high schooler who wants to find belonging so bad he lets a lie spin out of control. The West End cast features Sam Tutty (Evan Hansen), Doug Colling (Conor Murphy), Jack Loxton (Jared Kleinman), Lauren Ward (Cynthia Murphy), Lucy Anderson (Zoe Murphy), Nicole Raquel Dennis (Alana Beck), Rebecca McKinnis (Heidi Hansen), and Rupert Young (Larry Murphy). The production is directed by Michael Greif.
