Matt Cardle has withdrawn from the cast of Falsettos the Musical, which is set to being previews at The Other Palace in London on 30th August, due to unforeseen scheduling complications.

Cardle, who is currently appearing in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Barbican until 24th August, was set to play Mendel in the UK premiere of the musical, alongside Natasha J Barnes, Daniel Boyes, Oliver Savile and Laura Pitt-Pulford.

Announcing his departure from the show, Cardle said: "I am truly sorry that circumstances beyond our control have led to my departure from Falsettos. It has been such a hard decision for us to make, as I know Tara Overfield-Wilkinson [director] is going to deliver the most incredible show.

"It's a complex and exciting show and I can't wait to watch the world-class cast bring this to life at The Other Palace and urge anyone who hasn't yet bought tickets to do so before the run sells out. I for one won't miss the chance to watch it."

Cardle will be replaced in the musical by Joel Montague, who has starred in productions of Kiss Me Kate, Fat Friends, School of Rock and Funny Girl.

The Tony Award-winning musical, with music, lyrics and book by William Finn and book by James Lapine, is a poignant look at modern family life revolving around gay man Marvin, his wife, his lover, his son, their doctors, and their lesbian neighbours.

Falsettos will run at The Other Palace from 30th August to 23rd November.

Falsettos tickets are available now.
