Lynn Nottage’s play Sweat is set to transfer to the West End from the Donmar Warehouse later this year for a limited run at the Gielgud Theatre, it has been announced. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play is based on interviews Nottage conducted in 2011 with residents in the town of Reading, Pennsylvania which was, at the time, one of the poorest cities in America. She wanted to explore the effects of losing heavy industry, and the changing ethnic landscape of the city.
Just under the wire for 2018, the final London play opening of the year has turned out to be one of the very best. It might have even won my vote for the play of the year but for the fact that Matthew Lopez's The Inheritance long got there first.
