Peter McDonald starred in Greenland at Lyttelton, National Theatre.

Did you go to training school, if so which one?
No I did not.

Briefly tell us how you became involved with Greenland?
The director Bijan Shibani saw me in some shows. I had seen some of his work. Both liked what we saw. We met up and he kindly offered me the job.

Your first stage performance?
One of the three Kings in a nativity play. I had the Gold.

Career highlight to date?
The Wexford Trilogy on stage. Saltwater on screen.

What roles would you most like to play?
Captain Jack Boyle (Juno and the Paycock), Frank Hardy (Faith Healer). Macbeth.

What's the best advice you've ever received?
On Stage, there are no thoughts in the ground.

What has been your most embarrassing moment on stage?
Fell over on a chair in my current show Greenland. Thankfully I landed in the wings!

What is the most annoying part about your job?
Mobile phones.

If you had not become a performer, what might you have done instead?
Writer.

What was the last book you read, and name some of your favourite authors?
Last book: Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow. Excellent.

Favourite authors.
Joyce, Updike, Carver, Daniel Woodrell.

What was the last film you saw, and name some of your favourite movies?
The Last film: Winter's Bone. V good. Favourite movies: Sweet Smell of Success, The Hill.

Favourite TV programs?
Sopranos.

Favourite holiday destinations?
West of Ireland. Snowdonia. The Highlands of Scotland.

Do you have any hobbies?
Noodling about on my guitar.

Do you have any superstitions?
Not yet, touch wood.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would youtake with you?
Deckchair, shades and an umbrella.

What are your future plans?
I have started to work on the other side of the camera. I would like to do it more often.
