Cast confirmed for "Little Women" at Duchess Theatre from 27 Sep 2004

Casting has been confirmed for Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, with adaptation by Emma Reeves, which opens at the Duchess Theatre 13 Oct 2004, following previews from 27 Sep, and booking to 15 Jan 2005.

Directed by Andrew Loudon and produced by Novel Theatre, the cast includes: Sarah Crowden (Aunt March), Lizzie Conrad (Mrs March), Sarah Edwardson (Meg), Sarah Grochala (Jo ), Phoebe Thomas (Beth), Diana Eskell (Amy ), Ann Micklethwaite (Sallie Gardiner), Paul Hampton (Laurie), Tim Fessler (John Brooke ), James Rhodes (Ned Moffat ), Sue Appleby (Belle Moffat ), Daniel Betts (Professor Bhaer), Henrietta Faye (Hortense).

This Duchess Theatre run follows three previous London seasons: on the Fringe at the Upstairs in the Gatehouse theatre in Highgate (2001) and New End Theatre in Hampstead (2001/02), and at the Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadler's Wells (2002/03).

Alcott's 1868 novel and its sequel 'Good Wives' (1869) have been dramatised in this adaptation by Emma Reeves who has condensed the essence of the stories into a 2-hour play.

The story of the March family - a vibrant, American household. With her husband away in the American Civil War, Marmee is left alone to bring up their four girls; Meg , Jo , Beth and Amy . Through the intertwining lives of the sisters we see the familiar frustrations, contradictions and duties that constitute family life and love. We share in the hardships and heartbreak, humour and humility of these enthusiastic and diverse young women.
