Giles Terera will perform his own song cycle next month as a livestreamed production, it has been announced. Based on his thoughts about London communities coming together, his show Black Matter will premiere on 24 March, and will be available to stream for one week.

In press material for the Black Matter song cycle, Terera said: "I live in Soho, London. I was there throughout last summer. I saw Soho shift from deserted tranquillity, where the only sounds were birds and church bells to the noise and heat of demands for social justice and civil unrest... I found myself taking my guitar and writing about what I was seeing and feeling and thinking."

Filmed during lockdown at Crazy Coqs, Black Matter is a response to changing societies, asking how individuals should communicate with each other. Throughout the performance, there's protest songs, as well as capturing the joy, anger and love felt in communities.

Best known for his Olivier Award-winning performance as Aaron Burr in the West End premiere of Hamilton, Terera can regularly be seen in West End productions. Recently, he's starred in Rosmersholm at the Duke of York's Theatre, and was due to play Sammy Davis Jr. in a world premiere jukebox musical at Lyric Hammersmith.

Black Matter is available from 24 - 31 March. For more information, read here. You can watch a trailer below.
