This comedy of manners is set in a contemporary banking milieu where millions are made and lost at the touch of a computer-screen. Harpagon's obsession with money for its own sake is a very topical one, as it has potentially serious consequences for those around him. The play therefore shows this 17-century farce to be as relevant now as it ever was
