Simon Russell Beale will lead the cast in Lucinda Coxon’s adaptation of John Gabriel Borkman later this year. John Gabriel Borkman begins previews at the Bridge Theatre on 24 September ahead of an opening night on 29 September and performances to 26 November.

The Henrik Ibsen play follows the title character who is sent to prison for fraud. As he reflects on his enterpreneurial days, he plots a miraculous comeback. At the same time, his wife tries to reestablish the ‘Borkman’ name.

Simon Russell Beale will play the eponymous character in John Gabriel Borkman. He’s no stranger to the Bridge Theatre as he was previously in Bach & Sons and A Christmas Carol at the London venue. Recently, he’s starred in The Lehman Trilogy in the West End and on Broadway. Further casting will be revealed at a later date.

Lucinda Coxon adapts John Gabriel Borkman. Previously, she’s collaborated with Bridge Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner on the world premiere of Alys, Always. Hytner directs John Gabriel Borkman, with further creative team members to be announced.
