Ryhmateatteri presents The Overcoat, at the Pleasance Theatre Main House, in north London, from 17 to 28 April 2012.
It is written by Esa Leskinen and Sami Keski-Vahala, adapted by Catherine Grosvenor. Based on Nikolai Gogol’s everyman short story.
Directed by Aleksis Meaney, the cast includes Billy Mack (Akaky McKaky), Karen Fishwick, Sarah McCardie, Hazel Ann Crawford, Simon Macallum, Tom Freeman.
Akaky McAkay – a sympathetic, but inconspicuous bank clerk – finds himself in financial dire straits and decides that the key to his own personal happiness would be a brand new overcoat. This fateful decision sends Akaky on an incredible and often hilarious journey through the jungle of modern work life and the ever-stranger twists and turns of the global economy, all the way to the very fundamental questions of his existence.
