About Hamlet

Be welcomed back into the brilliant world of Shakespeare this autumn as a brilliant revival of Hamlet hits the stage in London. This new staging is directed by Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Operation Mincemeat), the National Theatre’s new deputy artistic director. Book Hamlet tickets on London Theatre.

Hamlet is a play in which we meet Prince Hamlet as he wrestles with grief from the loss of his father. One night during a dream, his father’s ghost visits him to expose Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius as the murderer. The Prince, having heard of this news, becomes overwhelmed by a sense of betrayal. We follow him on his journey of feigning insanity and seeking revenge in his father’s honor. Hastie brings a smashingly stylish vision to this timeless story of loyalty, grief, and mortality, blending the original's intensity with a striking sort of dark humour.

Donning the mantle of Hamlet himself is Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera (The Father and the Assassin, Life of Pi), who is sure to deliver an outstanding performance in this highly anticipated rendition of this ever-lasting show. He is joined by a formidable cast: Phil Cheadle, Ayesha Dharker, Tom Glenister, Hari Mackinnon, Francesca Mills, Alistair Petrie, Siobhan Redmond, and Geoffrey Streatfeild.

Hamlet in London brings together an extraordinary creative team as well, including set and costume designer Ben Stones, lighting designer Jessica Hung Han Yun, and sound designer Alexandra Faye Braithwaite.

With Shakespeare’s enduring tale of loss and resilience, coupled with Hastie’s innovative directive approach, this restaging of Hamlet promises to deliver an engaging performance that honors its legacy. It is running this autumn at the Lyttelton Theatre and will be filmed for a National Theatre Live release. Audiences all over the world should anticipate a performance they are not soon to forget.
