What is the true cost of love? For two cowboys, their lives change when they discover a powerful connection right under their noses. Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges star in the world premiere of Brokeback Mountain at @sohoplace. Brokeback Mountain tickets are available on London Theatre now.
Although most people will be aware of the Brokeback Mountain story from the 2005 movie starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, it originates from The New Yorker. Annie Proulx’s 1997 short story won the National Magazine Award for Fiction, and earned Proulx a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for the collection Close Range: Wyoming Stories. The stage play offers a chance to visit 1960s Wyoming via the West End.
Ashley Robinson adapts Proulx’s story. But, this isn't a typical play. Everybody's Talking About Jamie creator Dan Gillespie Sells composes an all-original country and western score for Brokeback Mountain in London. Eddi Reader will perform the musical accompaniment, joined by her four-piece band.
In 1960s Wyoming, close-knit communities stayed together. Although they struggle to get by, they make do. Two cowboys, Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar, start work on Joe Aguirre’s sheep farm. While working on the isolated mountain, they find a deep, intimate connection with one another. Love comes in all forms, but for this pair, can they keep their bond a secret?
