Twelfth Night, or What You Will, is a play written by William Shakespeare in 1601 or 1602, with its earliest public staging in February 1602 at Middle Temple Hall. This play's name was a reference to the twelfth night after Christmas Day, which is also known as the Eve of the Feast of Epiphany. The story also references the ancient region of the Western Balkans; the coast covered modern-day Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania.
