The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a musical based on William Kamkwamba’s internationally bestselling memoir. This beautiful new musical follows William, a 13-year-old boy whose Malawian village is facing hunger and famine. The adults around him are struggling to keep hope and themselves alive as William turns to the only resource he knows: books. Within them, he attempts to find a solution using scraps of machinery and a restless desire to save his village. Piece by piece, William constructs a windmill that could change the future of his entire community.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind in London had its world premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre. Directed by Lynette Linton, it features book and lyrics by Richy Hughes and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor, who wrote, directed, and starred in the 2019 film adaptation, who is joining the West End production as an Executive Producer.
